Food Safety Training Requirements in Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan Food Safety Legislation
The Food Handler Certification Course provided by the Canadian Institute of Food Safety is approved under Division 3 of the Food Premises Regulation in Saskatchewan. This means that the course meets all legislative requirements for food safety training.
The regulations in Saskatchewan state the following:
1. A person who has completed an approved food safety training course must be on the premises of a food business whenever food is being prepared or served
2. Local authorities may require additional employees to complete an approved food safety training course if the facility is deemed to be operating in a way that may endanger public health
3. The operator of a food business must ensure that all employees are adequately trained in food safety
Special Events & Temporary Businesses
Most special events, temporary food establishments and some community events normally require a temporary Food Premises Operating license and must also follow regulatory requirements.
